Pangolins are the most trafficked animal in the world making up about 20% of all trafficked animals. Within a decade over 1 million pangolins were trafficked in Asia and Africa.

The Problem

Pangolins are C r i t i c a l l y E n d a n g e r e d

Pangolins make up 20% of all trafficked animals because they are known for their beautiful scales that serve medicinal purposes and their meat that is a delicacy in China and Vietnam.

Pangolins are also carriers of coronavirus along with bats. Consuming these animals that are carriers of viruses have been shown to be dangerous with the outbreak of COVID-19 and should not be done.

What is being done?

There are many different ways that help is being provided for the Pangolins. An example is from the treaty signed by over 100 countries. Sadly poaching is still currently happening and pangolins are being sold and traded illegally. The outbreak of COVID-19 has helped the pangolins and perhaps will help them in the future as well if poachers can learn not to mess with disease carrying animals.
